How to be confident on a date
Always remember that confidence is completely
psychological. The better you feel about
yourself within, the more others around
you will notice your air of confidence.
Not very many people are totally happy
with themselves when they look in the
mirror, so the following tips may help
you on your date:
PREPARATION
Look at yourself in a mirror and decide
what your best features are. Whether it
is something about your face or your body,
your date is always likely to notice some
specific thing about you.
Accentuate these features using either
make-up or clothes. If you have sexy lips,
keep your eye make up subtle, and vice
versa. If you have a pale complexion,
wear bold colours, not pastels.
The most important thing when choosing
an outfit is to make sure you are comfortable.
But of course you also want your date
to think 'wow' when you see them!
So keep it simple. Think about which
part of your body you love showing off.
If it is your shoulders, wear a strapless
top. If it's your legs, wear a wraparound
dress.
Never wear something that you think you
might regret once you are on the date.
Remember you will have to sit down most
of the night so what may look good standing
up, may make you uncomfortable sitting
down, especially if it's a short skirt!
ON THE DATE
SMILE. It takes more muscles to
frown than to smile, so make the most
of your mouth and your date will warm
to the sparkle in your eyes when you are
smiling.
MAKE EYE CONTACT. There is nothing worse
than being out on a date with someone
who is scared to look you in the eye.
Looking into someone's eyes will let
you know if they are genuinely interested
in what you are saying, and engage yourself
deeper into a conversation.
KEEP HEAD UP HIGH. Never look down at
the ground on a date as your partner will
know you are nervous. Keep your head held
up high and your confidence will grow.
Finally
BE NATURAL
On a first date it is sometimes hard not
to fake things, especially laughing. But
the more you fake your laugh, the more
awkward the date will become. Be yourself
and the date will run more smoothly, openly
and honestly!
Dating Safety Advice
Chatting online to potential dates on
DatingNorthernIreland is fun and exciting,
and getting to know each other virtually
is a great way to find out loads of info
- their loves, hates, interests and sense
of humour to name a few.
When dating online, remember this simple
advice and you'll be sure to have a trouble-free
time:
" Don't publish your personal mobile
number or address on the site
" Do tell the truth about important
things ie. you can pretend you're funnier
than you really are but don't lie about
your age or sex!
" It's easy to get carried away when
talking from a distance and we all say
things we may not say face to face, so
be aware that the person online may be
different to the real thing
" Follow your gut feeling about a
person
" Ask for a picture of your date
so you know what they are like
" Ask lots of questions so you know
as much as possible about a person
You have to admit that nothing beats
the traditional 'Would you like to go
out for a drink?', so once you and your
online buddy decide to meet up face to
face, there are a few things to be aware
of to make sure it's a safe date.
DO:
Suggest meeting in a public place eg.
A bar, restaurant, cinema or coffee shop
Tell at least one person that you're going
out on a date and where you're going
Have a few drinks to loosen up, but try
not to drink too much on a first date
(if you can't focus on your g&t and
the room's spinning it's time to stop!)
Take your mobile with you so you can stay
in contact with your friends, even if
you only end up needing it to text your
mate about how sexy your date is in person!
Suggest meeting up during the day, or
offer a time when you will have to leave
Make sure you have your house key with
you!
DON'T:
Feel pressured into meeting up with someone
you don't feel ready to
Let your date know where you live when
you meet up for the first time
" Feel bad about leaving the date
at any stage if you don't feel comfortable
